Where in the World are We

Our Itinerary
  1. October 1 2018 - Jan 15 2019
    Mahahual - Mexico
Sue has allowed Paul to indulge himself doing 2 months of Scuba Diving in the beautiful Caribbean out of the coastal town of Mahahual. Paul has wanted to expand his dive knowledge and experience and is doing his Dive Master training. Sue will be volunteering in the local community with Costa Maya ministries working with under privileged children in the local communities. This period was extended by a number of weeks as they had to return home to Australia unexpectedly therefore our time in Mahahual carried into the new year. We were fortunate enough to secure a house sit for the remaining 5 weeks. The extra time allowed us the opportunity to visit Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Tulum and Playa de Carmen while we were there.
  2. Jan 16 - Feb 3 2019
    Cuba - An unknown land
While in the Caribbean with time to spare Cuba is a must to visit. Like us have you watched the shows on Cuba with the old cars and architecture, it's like stepping back in time. Paul and Sue are taking the opportunity to visit what was once a forbidden territory. And before you ask, no I won't be bringing you back any cigars. While in Cuba we will be visiting Havana, Vinales, Trinidad and Playa Giron. This should give us a good overview of life in the tiny Caribbean nation.
  3. Feb 3 - Mar 23 2019
    Exploring Argentina
Paul and Sue plan to travel throughout Argentina over a 5 week period with an 11 day Antarctica visit in the middle. A few days in Buenos Aires before heading north to the amazing Iguazu Falls tucked on the boarder with Brazil and Parguay. From there they will be moving to Rosario inland about 350 Km west of Buenos Aires. They will then start their journey south visiting Bariloche and the Patagonia Lakes district, El Calafate and the Patagonia ice fields before reaching Ushuaia the most southern town in the world, commonly known as the bottom of the world. A few days hiking in Ushuaia before Paul and Sue leave Argentina for 11 days. On their return they head north to the wine district of Mendoza where they will definitely be taste testing a few reds to pass some time. This is their last stop in Argentina and will head over the Andes by bus to Santiago Chile.
  4. March 4 - 15 2019
Antarctica Cruise - Our 7th & last continent to set foot on
Breaking up the Argentina visit is a cruise to Antarctica. This is going to be one of the highlights of our trip. Boarding the G Expedition with G Adventures leaving from Ushuaia the Southern most city in the world. From there it's the a short passage through the Beagle Channel, viewing Tierra del Fuego, before undertaking the 2 day voyage across the Drake Passage to Antarctica and the antarctic circle. If you want to say that you've been to all 7 continents, well you have to get here. This will complete one of our dreams of visiting every continent on earth. Thanks to Mauricio Zarzar for his help from Eclipse Travel and making this all come true.
  5. March 23 - April 4 2019
    Discovering Chile
After spending time well below latitude 50S we begin to head north. While I'd like to say for warmer weather eventually we do move into the Andes being at altitude (2500 - 5000m) for a number of weeks and most likely some cooler weather. The first week will be Santiago visiting the surrounding areas of Valparisio and the Maipo valley before we head further north to San Pedro de Atacama. We'll spend nearly a week here seeing the sights- Moon valley (Valle de Luna), El Tatio Geyser, Puritama hot springs, Altiplanic lagoons and the Atacama salt flats. At this point we take the 10 hour bus trip and venture into Bolivia to Uyuni.
  6. April 17 - 29 2019
    Peru & Machu Piccu
Our journey takes us to another landmark of must see destinations. We arrive in Cusco for a day or two before taking on the Inca trail and the walk to see the magnificent ruins of Machu Piccu arguably one of the 7 wonders of the world, though the lists do vary. Looking forward to trek the Inca trail through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). We don't have plans after the tour but we will use the remainder of the month to explore the rest of Peru with a visit to Lima. If you've visited Peru please let us know of any worth while places to visit.
  7. September 22 2019
Returning Home for a touch of Family
The plan is to return home to see family and tidy up some loose ends. Maybe even sell the last of the things that we kept. We really don't need that "stuff". Paul needs to go back to work to formally finalise his employment and officially retire, so we can continue our passion to travel. At this stage exact dates are uncertain but one thing we do know, this is just a break from travelling and seeing much more of this awesome world.
  8. April 4 - 16 2019
Bolivia - The salt flats of Uyuni
After leaving Chile the first stop is Uyuni. After a rest day we take a three day 4X4 tour across the Salar de Uyuni visiting the unique expansive salt flats, Incahuasi (Fish) Island, Train cemetery, red and green lakes with flamingos, geysers, hot springs and active volcanoes. From here it's an overnight bus to La Paz, the highest capital city in the world (3500m) where we will spend nearly a week visiting the sites of the city and the surrounding areas. On our departure, on the way to Peru by bus, we'll stop and spend a day at Lake Titicaca before travelling onward to Cusco in Peru
  9. July & August 2019
Latin America - Where to next
While taking a break in Ecuador Paul and Sue will utilise this time to think and plan the next part of our journey. With 2 1/2 months remaining before we head home there are some destinations that we would like to pursue. Columbia is on our must do list as it is now one of the hot spots for travel. We'd love to explore Brazil but time is running out and such a big country can only be appreciated with a longer visit. We still may get there but time will tell. Other places include Panama and Costa Rica that are on our list. A family reunion in NY state may take us on a detour to visit Paul's father's family he has never met. All this will be decided once we hit Ecuador.

Ecuador & time to slow down
Paul and Sue will be slowing their travels down after being on the go for several months, spending no longer than a week in any one location. Taking the opportunity for a 2 month house sit in Cuenca Ecuador to recharge their batteries before moving on to last few countries they'll visit before heading home. While in Ecuador they visit Quito the capital and hopefully take the opportunity to experience life in Ecuador while staying in Cuenca. Housesitting has always been part of our long term plan so this is a good opportunity to see how we settle into it on a longer term.

    Our Travels continue
While nothing is set in concrete Paul and Sue are heading to the Northern hemisphere spending time in the UK. They will be pursuing house sits and taking the opportunity to travel more of Europe. Currently considering a house sit for 3 months on the Isle a Man. We'll keep this updated as time progresses.
